Build confidence for longer coastal legs
An all-onboard intermediate course, ideal preparation for the boating licence exam. It deepens core navigation knowledge and builds the skills needed to take command safely on longer coastal legs.

Course overview

What you’ll cover
  • Technical terminology and first steps in DR navigation: latitude/longitude, courses, compass use, essential ratios and calcs
  • Basic meteorology for marine forecasts and decision-making
  • Engine and prop basics with routine maintenance
  • Sail trim and setup: reefing, tacks, downhaul, trim across points of sail
  • Anchoring techniques (practical, though not on the exam)
  • Intro to night navigation: lights, references, safety
  • Harbour manoeuvres: casting off and stern-to mooring
  • COLREGs refresh and application
